The Macallan Rare Cask has been blended from American white oak barrels and Spanish pedunculate in sherry. A high proportion of the barrels selected was chosen from among the most precise and sought after barrels of first filling. All together, these factors were instrumental in giving the whiskey its rich and splendid color. The whiskey has a very bright mahogany color and an almost viscous consistency. The first nose offers notes of dried fruit cake, with a hint of cinnamon, white pepper and allspice. Not to mention a taste of dark chocolate to bake. The texture is soft on the palate with an unusual hint (for Macallan) of salt, with chocolate and spices.
